Toy Facts and Information:
Hamleys toy store opened in 1760 in London by William Hamley, a Cornishman from Bodmin. He envisaged a store crammed full of toys and wanted it to be the biggest toy shop in the world.
Hamley's vision was developed and the toy shop became so well respected the renouned toy manufacturer Jean Jacques and Sons (inventor of Happy Families, Tiddledy-Winks, Ludo and Snakes and Ladders) promoted their new game of Gossima at Hamleys which later became known as Ping Pong or Table Tennis.
Hamleys suffered during the European economic depression. It was also bombed 5 times in the blitz, but it survived by having shop assistants serve customers from the front door wearing tin hats.
Today Hamely's toy shop can be found on Regents Street and is still the biggest toy shop in the world with toys on 7 floors.
If you are shopping for Christmas, birthdays or for any other special occasion for children or even adults games, Hamleys is the place to go for presents that cannot be found elsewhere.
