Christmas Sweets and Chocolate
Perhaps the original sweet gift at Christmas was the candy cane. Originally pure white, it was interestingly bent into a cane shape by a choirmaster at Cologne Cathedral who passed them out to keep children quite during the living creche ceremonies.
They are said to signify the J of Jesus or the shepherds crook (the good shepherd watches over his children like lambs). They were first painted in the 1920's to have the red stripe.
Of course there are many other popular sweets for Christmas and every bodies favourite is chocolate.
Cadbury Roses chocolate outsell Frozen Turkeys by 50% during the Christmas period.
